Students at Haute Vallée will take on two of their teachers in a triathlon fundraiser to raise money for Brightly, a local children's charity.
Deputy Headteacher, Sarah Quenault, and school-based counsellor, Katie Mulligan, will both take part in the Jersey Triathalon on 11 July to raise money for Brightly. Ahead of their challenge – and to boost their fundraising efforts – they have invited their students to compete against them.
Today, Sarah and Katie will race against teams of students, one for each leg of the triathlon. A team from Year 7 will compete in the running section; a team from Year 8 will take the pool for the swimming section; and, a team from Year 9 will take on a bike challenge.
Sarah and Katie will select their 'Triathletes of the Day' from the students who have shown the most effort, enthusiasm and resilience.
The event is being supported by the community. The spinning bikes for the racing section are being provided by Active Jersey, and each winner will receive a free water bottle and voucher from Big Maggie's café.
Deputy Headteacher, Sarah Quenault, said: "Brightly is close to both our hearts, as so much of the work we do in school is focused on the well-being of young people. Brightly provides wonderful opportunities for children in care, and the school has supported them in the past for our school walk.
"We're looking forward to raising as much money as possible through a non-uniform day, and though donations from the family and friends of the students who will be competing against us."
School-based counsellor, Katie Mulligan, said: "We wanted to get school students involved in this event so that we could help promote all the positive health benefits of exercise, gaining a sense of achievement, and working as a team, all while having fun."
