Pay your Social Security contributions and instalments

Payment deadlines

Your payments are due monthly by the 15th of the following month. For example, payment of October contributions is due by 15 November.

Class 1 and Class 2 contributions

You may pay any amount using your debit or credit card, subject to your card issuer terms and conditions. We don't accept American Express, Diners or Electron.

Class 2 contributions only

A direct debit can't be used to pay your Class 1 contributions.

Class 2 contributions and instalments only

You can use our automated telephone payment system to pay for Class 2 contributions or instalments. This is available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. We don't accept American Express, Diners or Electron.

You'll need your social security number or instalment number to make a payment.

Pay by cheque​

Your cheque must be made payable to the 'Treasurer of the States'.

Class 1 contributions

You must detail your employer reference number on the back of your cheque and the month you're paying, for example, October 2022. You can find your employer reference number on your statement.

Class 2 contributions

You must detail your social security number on the back of your cheque and the month you're paying, for example, October 2022.

Telephone and internet banking payments

Class 1 contributions

You must always include your employer reference number as the reference to your payment. You can find your reference number on your statement.

Class 2 contributions

You must always include your social security number as the reference to your payment.

Cash payments

Class 1 and Class 2 contributions

If you’re unable to pay using other methods, you can pay up to £1,000 in cash at the cashier's desk at Customer and Local Services.
