If you've been out of work for an extended amount of time

If you are worried about your skills and experience, there are schemes funded by the States of Jersey that support people who are returning to work. These provide work experience placements and are a fantastic way to develop skills and experience relevant to the workplace.

The Social Security Department also support people in returning to work. Depending on the type of job you are looking for and the level of skills, experience and qualifications you have, it may be that you need to look at skills development and / or work experience. A careers adviser will be able to talk through your options.

Other ways to build up work experience

Voluntary work is an excellent way to build up experience and gain up to date reference. The Association of Jersey Charities website features a range of voluntary opportunities on the Island or you may wish to contact employers direct to see if they can offer work experience, which can often lead to paid employment.
