The full-time learning options available once you finish year 11 include traditional academic courses such as AS, A2, International Baccalaureate and vocational courses such as BTEC, NVQ and City & Guilds:
Entry requirements
Each school or college has their own entry requirements, which must be met by the student. You should contact the individual school or college you are applying to or ask your school careers teacher for details.
Fees
Course and school fees are charged by some of the establishments, as listed above. For details of fees and information on scholarships and bursaries available, contact the individual school or college you are applying to.
Making choices
To help you decide on the best route for you, each of the post-16 schools and colleges offer year 11 students the opportunity to visit during the autumn / spring terms. Information evenings also take place for you and your parents to attend; details of these events will be made available through your school careers department.
You will have the opportunity to discuss your post-16 choices with a relevant teacher in a one-to-one interview. This is your chance to ask questions, so make sure you are prepared.
Some post-16 choices will determine the options available to you at 18 (especially for careers such as medicine), therefore it is important to carefully consider which is the most appropriate route for you and not to make choices based on your friendship groups.
Things to consider when making choices:
- future career aspirations and specific qualifications required
- enjoyment of subjects
- ability in subjects
- course content (some subjects may include aspects you wouldn’t expect, eg psychology features statistics and science modules)
- style of learning (practical or academic)
- style of assessment (coursework or examination)

Applying
The application process for all schools and colleges on the Island begins during the autumn term of year 11 and involves the following stages:
- applications to Highlands College and Hautlieu school are made through a central online application system; your school will provide you with all the information you require
- Beaulieu, De La Salle, Jersey College for Girls and Victoria College have independent application processes. See each website for details
- references are normally completed by your teachers during the spring term
- you may be invited to attend an interview during the spring or summer term
- places are normally confirmed (subject to achieving the required GCSE grades) by June of the year of application
