Renew your passport

Passport processing times

Due to unprecedented demand for passports since COVID related travel restrictions have been lifted, processing times on the Standard Service have increased to approximately 50 working days (10 weeks).

This affects all applications that have already been submitted as well as future applications.

Renew your adult or child passport

You can renew a passport if it's expired or will expire soon. This includes if you currently have a child passport.

You cannot add remaining validity from an old passport to a new passport. Passports are issued for a maximum validity of 10 years for an adult passport and 5 years for a child passport.

Passport rules for travel to Europe from 1 January 2021

You need to be 16 or over (or turning 16 in the next 3 weeks) if you want an adult passport. To renew a child passport they need to be 0 to 15 years old.

If you were born on or before 2 September 1929, you can get a free standard passport. The express service fee still applies.

You must replace your passport if it's been lost, stolen or damaged rather than renew it.

How to apply

Read the applying for a passport guidance notes carefully and follow the instructions before completing your passport application.

Then you need to:

You may be contacted by a Passport Officer if we need any further documentation.

Paper applications

If you would prefer a paper application form email the Passport Office with your name and address and we'll post one to you.

Return it by post or hand delivery to:

Customer and Local Services Centre
La Motte Street
St Helier
JE4 8PE

You can then pay online with a debit or credit card.

Passport photo

You'll need two identical photos taken within the last month of yourself.

Your application could be delayed or unaccepted if you do not follow the passport photo requirements.

Getting someone to sign your passport photo

You'll need to get your passport application and photo signed by someone to prove your identity.

Applying from outside Jersey

You can apply for a passport in Jersey from the UK if you were born in Jersey.

You can't renew your passport in Jersey if you:

Jersey Island Variant blue passports

The new blue passport design is now being issued to British nationals renewing or applying for a passport, one of the major changes is that your new passport will need to be signed before you can use it.

How to sign your passport

Sign your new passport as soon as you get it. You can’t use it until you do.
Sign on the ‘holder’s signature’ line using black ballpoint pen.

When you don’t need to sign

You don’t need to sign your new passport if:

  • you’re aged 11 or under
  • you can’t sign because of a disability

The passport will show ‘the holder is not required to sign’ on the page with your name and photo on it.

Islander endorsement

Currently a small percentage of British Islanders, who have no links to the UK, have an Islander Endorsement stamp in their passports. This endorsement restricts the automatic right to live and work in the EU. Since 31 December 2020 this endorsement stopped being added to any new or renewed Jersey variant British passports.
