About the Lord Portsea Gift Fund
The Lord Portsea Gift Fund provides financial help for educational training, re-training or specialised equipment to young people who want to further their careers in the United Kingdom armed services or the civil services in Jersey or the United Kingdom. It is a managed Fund so the income available for distribution may vary from year to year.
You may be eligible to receive funding if you:
- were born, or have a parent who was born, in the Channel Islands
- are aged 29 or under
- are already employed or have been given a firm commitment to join HM Government Service (military or civil, including the hospital services) or
- are employed or about to become employed by the States of Jersey or Guernsey, or a local authority in the UK

Complete the application form below and return it to us at Student Finance, along with a copy of your birth certificate.
Return your application to us by 1 May for consideration for funding for the following academic year.

Finding out if your application is successful
Decisions about funding are made by a Grands Panel once a year, usually in July, for the following academic year. If funds allow, grants would normally be in the region of £1,000 to £2,000.
You may be interviewed by the honorary secretary and executive Officer of the Fund before your application is considered by the Grants Panel.
How the fund originated
In 1957, a sum of £17,000 was left by Miss Albina Bertram Falle to the Royal Court and the States of Jersey in line with the wishes of her late brother, Lord Portsea.
With the approval of the Royal Court, the States of Jersey accepted the gift in 1968 and three years later (the sum now £27,000), the States Assembly adopted the Lord Portsea Gift Fund (Jersey) Act 1971, which set out the rules for the administration of the Fund.
In 2014, the status of the Fund changed when the Royal Court approved its incorporation under the name of The Lord Portsea Gift Fund Incorporated.
